Miami police boycotting Beyoncé concert due to ‘her anti-police message'

On Thursday, a Miami police union announced its intentions toboycott Beyoncé’s world tourand encouraged a nationwide boycott for police.

Javier Ortiz, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, accused Beyoncéof promoting an anti-police message with her Super Bowl50 halftime performance, saying she used the performance “to divide Americans by promoting the Black Panthers and her anti-police message.”

On Thursday, Ortiz wrote that he “was one of the tens of thousands of law enforcement officers that didn’t watch the Super Bowl halftime show out of respect for our profession,” but that “on another day while flipping through thetelevisionchannels, I did mistakenly watch her ‘Formation’ video.'”

A spokesman for the City of Miami Police Department told the Huffington Post that the police union only spoke for itself, saying “there’s no indication that anything that is said there will translate into police officers not working the job.”

The proposed Miami police anti-Beyoncé boycott comes on the heels of Tampa police refusing to work Queen Bey’s upcoming concert.
