'Mob Wives’ Big Ang dead at 55

‘Mob Wives’ Big Ang dead at 55

Angela “Big Ang” Raiola died on Thursday morning after a nearly year-long battle with throat cancer.

The Mob Wives star died in a New York City hospital with her friends and family around her, and her family took to her Twitter account to spread the news that she had “peacefully ended her battle with cancer.”

Along with the tweet, the family posted a statement that read in part:

“YOU (fans) were some of the most special people in her world, and she loved you immensely. Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the end.”

Raiola was diagnosed with cancer in March 2015, and the cancer later spread from her throat to her brain and lung.

She posted the news to her Facebook account in April, urging people to look after their own health.

“Always look after yourselves and don’t neglect your health,” she wrote.

“I’m fortunate and blessed to have discovered something very early, and handle it in a positive manner. I thank you and I love you all from the bottom of my heart.”

In a pre-taped episode of Dr. Oz in February, she explained that doctors told her that her smoking habit was “positively” the cause of her illness.

Although she quit almost immediately after her diagnosis, she spent the next nearly year-long battle twice being declared cancer-free before the cancer would return again.
